Difference Between VTEC and non-VTEC

Difference Between VTEC and non-VTEC

VTEC has a switch over at 4400 rpm and secondary switch at 5800 rpm..... NON-VTEC of course dont have vtec and just a bit weaker at high end speed and power. Actually it stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. They just left some letters out because VTEC has a nicer ring to it than VVTLEC.

Is VTEC better than non VTEC?

VTEC stands for Variable Valve Timing with Electronic Lift Control. Non-VTEC cars don't have this. A Honda with VTEC is the more fancy engine and the one with more power than the standard one with no VTEC.

Does VTEC really make a difference?

Yes, Honda VTEC engines are VERY good because they're engines that run more efficiently than engines without variable valve timing, literally have two personalities in one engine, very reliable mechanical system, and they have a unparalleled high horsepower for a naturally aspirated engine with just 4 and 6 cylinders.

Is VTEC really that good?

Yes, Honda VTEC engines are VERY good because they're engines that run more efficiently than engines without variable valve timing, literally have two personalities in one engine, very reliable mechanical system, and they have a unparalleled high horsepower for a naturally aspirated engine with just 4 and 6 cylinders.

Will a VTEC engine work in a non VTEC car?

Re: Will a VTEC run ok in a non VTEC car? yes, it will run just fine. though if you want vtec to work you will need to wire it up either straight to the ecu through the firewall (plug underneath the battery box, almost directly at the ecu) or through the shock towers to make it look OEM.

Can you feel VTEC kick?

Re: What does it feel like when VTEC kicks in? (

the GSR has a lower switch point than most other dohc vtec cars, and its tuned to be very smooth and transparent. So if the car is stock, you won't feel any abrupt switch. you might hear it though, if you listen carefully. with intake and exhaust, its easier to hear.

Whats better VTEC or Turbo?

Turbo produces more torque and horsepower obviously while VTEC is more about pushing the maximum horsepower out of the engine since torque on VTEC cars can only be felt on VTEC range meaning anywhere after 5,500RPMs but yet the torque is still nothing compared with a turbo's torque output.

At what RPM does VTEC kick in?

Geez, most cars will redline at lower RPM than that. It depends on the engine. Most Hondas had vtec crossover in the low to mid 5000rpm range. You had 2 camshaft profiles, 1 optimized for low-mid rpm driveability and fuel economy and another for mid-high rpm power.

How does VTEC feel?

It's loud and slightly more pushy. That's it. Think of turbo lag, but like a light switch and for a turbo about the size of the ones on your keychain. That's VTEC.

Is VTEC like a turbo?

VTec engine is basically a variable valve engine. ... A standard turbocharged engine is basically a boosted engine which gives you good power onces you've got good rpms running as in the case of any normal turbocharged engines. Vtec is a completely thought and developed model by Honda.

Is VTEC bad for engine?

Vtec definitely won't hurt your engine. Like Maximuz said it helps with power and fuel economy. On this website, about 3/4 of the way down the page, it explains the Fit engine very well and more importantly in relatively simple terms.

Which is better VVTi or VTEC?

It is Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control with intelligence. ... The VVTi only alters the timing while i-VTEC alters the timing as well as lift of the valves. Also, the VVTi technology works only on the intake valve. The i-VTEC on the other hand makes changes to both, the intake and the exhaust valves.

Is VTEC only for Honda?

So yes, VTEC is Honda only and yes, there are other technologies that achieve the same, or very similar, goals.
